Permit Information

Blasting Permit
A Blasting Permit is required anytime a contractor wishes to use explosives to remove rock, shale or obstructions for any type of construction or landscaping.  A licensed blaster will obtain the Permit which also inlcudes a safety survey (audit) of the area surrounding the blasting site.  Metering of adjacent properties may be required to assess potential damage from the blasting.  Mats and other protective devices may be required to ensure public safety in the area of the Blasting.  Blasting Permits cost $25.  Click here for Permit

Burning Permit
Burning Permits are required by the State of New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands and generally are issued by local Fire Departments (large brush burning is issued jointly by a State Forest Fire Warden and the local Fire Department).  Usually small brush/garden preparation fires cannot be lit until after 5pm and extinguished the following morning.  A rainy day allows for fires to be lit during the daylight hours.  The Permit only can be issued to the land owner (unless he/she delegated in writing to someone else).  There are several types of Permits that can be obtained varying in lengths of time and the size of the materials to be burned.  There is no charge for this Permit. Fire Protection Systems Permit
Fire Protection Systems Permits (Automatic Extinguishing System: Fire Alarm: Kitchen Extinguishing System: Sprinkler System (dry or wet): Standpipe) are issued after a vendor submits plans and specifications for such a system to the Fire Department.  There is a minimal fee for each device which must be submitted with the Permit.  Once the Permit is issued, installation can commence.  After the system is installed and is tested 100% by the installer, the Fire Chief must be notified to “witness” an official acceptance test of the system.  In addition, a sprinkler system requires a written affidavit by an engineer be submitted to the Fire Chief before the acceptance test is conducted.  Click here for Permit & Fees

FireWorks Permit
Fireworks Permits are required by the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and require both the signature of the Police Chief and the Fire Chief.  In addition, a to scale map of the location of the requested fireworks must accompany each Permit application.  Applicants should consult the State Fire Marshal’s webpage or seek direction from NH licensed fireworks vendors to determine legal fireworks to use during their celebrations.  Annually the Legislature receives many bills to change the types of fireworks to be permitted.  Typically fireworks cannot be discharged past 11pm or midnight.  There is a $5 charge for this Permit.
