How to Register to Vote in Somersworth
Residents may register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office located within City Hall for the next election up until the last meeting of the Supervisors of the Checklist held to verify the voter checklist before an election. Residents may also register to vote on the day of the election at their designated polling place.
To be eligible to register and vote in New Hampshire, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older on Election Day;
- A United State Citizen;
- Domiciled in the Somersworth Ward where you seek to vote.
To Register to Vote
You must provide proof of your identity, age, citizenship and domicile. If your name has legally changed, for example through marriage, divorce, adoption, or a court-approved name change, and you will use any of these documents to prove United States citizenship, you must present proof of your legal name change that shows both your prior name as it appears on your proof of citizenship document and your current legal name as it appears on the voter registration application.

There is no minimum period of time you are required to have lived in the State before being allowed to register to vote. You may register as soon as you move into Somersworth.
Check Party Affiliation Status
Voters who have provided their date of birth on a voter registration form may go to the Secretary of State’s Registered Voter web link to check their political party affiliation status. The person must enter their first name, last name, town or city, date of birth, and complete the security entry. If the name, town or city, and date of birth are the same as what was provided in their voter registration form, their name, voter ID, and party affiliation, if any, will be displayed.
Absentee Ballot
Any qualified applicant may request an Absentee Ballot from the City Clerk’s Office.
Forms can be downloaded from the Secretary of State’s website for State Elections at: http://sos.nh.gov or for municipal elections at Absentee Ballot Application.
Please complete a separate form for each election which you’re requesting a ballot.
